Mike Portnoy memutuskan keluar dari Dream Theater.Berikut petikan pernyataan dari MP :
Setelah 25 tahun, saya telah memutuskan untuk meninggalkan Dream Theater …. band saya mendirikan, memimpin dan benar-benar mencintai untuk seperempat abad.
Untuk banyak orang ini akan datang sebagai kejutan yang lengkap, dan juga akan cenderung disalahpahami oleh beberapa, tapi tolong percayalah bahwa itu bukanlah sebuah keputusan yang tergesa-gesa … itu adalah sesuatu yang saya telah bergumul dengan untuk tahun terakhir ini … .
Setelah memiliki pengalaman yang luar biasa seperti bermain dengan Es, Transatlantic dan Avenged Sevenfold tahun terakhir ini, saya sedih sampai pada kesimpulan bahwa saya telah baru-baru ini lebih menyenangkan dan hubungan pribadi yang lebih baik dengan proyek-proyek lain daripada yang saya miliki untuk sementara waktu sekarang di Dream Theater …
Harap jangan salah menafsirkan, aku cinta orang-orang DT mahal dan memiliki sejarah panjang, persahabatan dan ikatan yang berjalan sangat mendalam dengan mereka … hanya saja saya pikir kita membutuhkan serius sedikit istirahat …
Dream Theater selalu bayi saya … dan saya memelihara bayi itu setiap hari dan bangun saat dalam kehidupan saya sejak tahun 1985 … 24 / 7 365 … pernah mengambil cuti dari responsibilites DT-tidak pernah berakhir (bahkan ketika band adalah “off” antara siklus) … kerja lembur dan jalan di luar panggilan tugas bahwa kebanyakan orang waras akan pernah lakukan untuk band …
Tapi aku sudah sampai pada kesimpulan bahwa mesin DT mulai membakar saya keluar … dan aku benar-benar butuh istirahat dari band untuk menyelamatkan hubungan saya dengan anggota lain dan tetap semangat DT saya lapar dan terinspirasi.
Kami telah menulis tak berujung pada / merekam / siklus tur selama hampir 20 tahun sekarang (yang saya diawasi aspek SETIAP tanpa istirahat) dan sementara beberapa bulan terpisah dari satu sama lain di sini & sana selama bertahun-tahun telah banyak dibutuhkan dan bermanfaat , jujur aku berharap band ini hanya bisa setuju dengan saya untuk mengambil sedikit dari hiatus “” untuk mengisi ulang baterai dan “menyelamatkan aku dari diri kita sendiri” …
Sayangnya, dalam mendiskusikan ini dengan orang-orang, mereka memutuskan mereka tidak berbagi perasaan saya dan telah memutuskan untuk terus tanpa saya bukan mengambil nafas … saya bahkan menawarkan untuk melakukan beberapa pekerjaan yang kadang-kadang seluruh 2011 bertentangan dengan keinginan awal saya, tapi untuk tidak …
Sementara itu benar-benar menyakitkan bagi saya untuk berpikir dari Dream Theater tanpa Mike Portnoy (neraka, ayah saya yang bernama band!)!, Aku tidak ingin menghalangi mereka … jadi saya telah memutuskan untuk mengorbankan diri dan hanya meninggalkan band agar tidak menahan mereka kembali terhadap keinginan mereka ….
Anehnya, saya hanya membaca sebuah wawancara bahwa saya baru-baru ini yang bertanya tentang masa depan DT dan saya berbicara tentang “selalu mengikuti hati dan bersikap jujur pada diri sendiri” … sedih Saya harus mengatakan bahwa pada saat tertentu, hatiku tidak dengan Dream Theater … dan saya hanya akan “melewati” gerakan, dan akan jujur TIDAK benar untuk diriku sendiri jika aku tinggal demi kewajiban tanpa melanggar aku merasa perlu.
Saya ingin orang-orang yang terbaik dan berharap musik dan warisan kita buat bersama-sama dinikmati oleh penggemar selama beberapa dekade yang akan datang … Saya bangga setiap album kami buat, setiap lagu kami menulis dan menunjukkan setiap kami bermain ….
Maaf semua DT fans di seluruh dunia kecewa … aku benar-benar mencoba menyelamatkan situasi dan membuatnya bekerja … jujur saya hanya ingin istirahat (bukan split) … tapi kebahagiaan tidak dapat dipaksakan, perlu datang dari dalam ….
DT fans Anda adalah penggemar terbesar di dunia dan seperti yang Anda semua tahu, aku selalu rusak pantatku untuk kalian dan saya berharap bahwa Anda akan tinggal dengan saya di masa depan perjalanan musik saya, di mana pun dapat membawa saya ….( dan ketika Anda semua tahu pekerjaan saya etika, ada pasti akan ada kekurangan proyek MP masa depan!)

I am about to write something I never imagined I’d ever write:
After 25 years, I have decided to leave Dream Theater….the band I founded, led and truly loved for a quarter of a century.
To many people this will come as a complete shock, and will also likely be misunderstood by some, but please believe me that it is not a hasty decision…it is something I have struggled with for the last year or so….
After having had such amazing experiences playing with Hail, Transatlantic and Avenged Sevenfold this past year, I have sadly come to the conclusion that I have recently had more fun and better personal relations with these other projects than I have for a while now in Dream Theater…
Please don’t misinterpret me, I love the DT guys dearly and have a long history, friendship and bond that runs incredibly deep with them…it’s just that I think we are in serious need of a little break…
Dream Theater was always my baby…and I nurtured that baby every single day and waking moment of my life since 1985…24/7, 365…never taking time off from DT’s never-ending responsibilites (even when the band was “off” between cycles)…working overtime and way beyond the call of duty that most sane people ever would do for a band…
But I’ve come to the conclusion that the DT machine was starting to burn me out…and I really needed a break from the band in order to save my relationship with the other members and keep my DT spirit hungry and inspired.
We have been on an endless write/record/tour cycle for almost 20 years now (of which I have overseen EVERY aspect without a break) and while a few months apart from each other here & there over the years has been much needed and helpful, I honestly hoped the band could simply agree with me to taking a bit of a “hiatus” to recharge our batteries and “save me from ourselves”…
Sadly, in discussing this with the guys, they determined they do not share my feelings and have decided to continue without me rather than take a breather…I even offered to do some occasional work throughout 2011 against my initial wishes, but it was not to be…
While it truly hurts for me to even think of a Dream Theater without Mike Portnoy (hell, my father named the band!!), I do not want to stand in their way…so I have decided to sacrifice myself and simply leave the band so as to not hold them back against their wishes….
Strangely enough, I just read an interview that I recently did that asked me about the future of DT and I talked about “always following your heart and being true to yourself”…sadly I must say that at this particular moment, my heart is not with Dream Theater…and I would simply be “going through the motions”, and would honestly NOT be true to myself if I stayed for the sake of obligation without taking the break I felt I needed.
I wish the guys the best and hope the music and legacy we created together is enjoyed by fans for decades to come…I am proud of every album we made, every song we wrote and every show we played….
I’m sorry to all the disappointed DT fans around the world…I really tried to salvage the situation and make it work…I honestly just wanted a break (not a split)…but happiness cannot be forced, it needs to come from within….
You DT fans are the greatest fans in the world and as you all know, I have always busted my ass for you guys and I hope that you will stay with me on my future musical journey, wherever it may lead me….(and as you all know my work ethic, there will surely be no shortage of future MP projects!)

Mike Portnoy leaves Dream Theater
Drummer Mike Portnoy dari band metal progresif Dream Theater telah mengeluarkan sebuah pengumuman mengejutkan Rabu (08/09) kemarin. Dia mundur dari band legendaris tersebut. Apa yang sebenarnya terjadi?
"Aku akan menulis sesuatu yang tak pernah aku bayangkan akan kutulis. Setelah 25 tahun, aku memutuskan untuk meninggalkan Dream Theater, band yang kudirikan, kujalankan, dan amat kucintai selama seperempat abad ini," tulisnya.
"Pasti banyak orang yang amat terkejut mendengarnya, dan mungkin juga akan banyak yang salah mengerti. Namun percayalah, ini bukan keputusan yang terburu-buru. Ini adalah sesuatu yang terus berkecamuk dalam diriku selama setahun ini," lanjutnya.
"Setelah mendapatkan pengalaman yang mengagumkan bersama Hail!, Transatlantic, dan Avenged Sevenfold tahun ini, sedihnya, aku akhirnya menyimpulkan jika aku mendapatkan hubungan pribadi yang lebih menyenangkan dan lebih baik dalam proyek-proyek itu daripada di Dream Theater saat ini."

Mike Portnoy memposting pesan berikut pada halaman Facebook-nya, yang ia menulis dalam menanggapi seseorang dan berkata band tidak akan sama tanpa The Rev:
Ini tidak akan pernah sama ... tapi ini band dihadapi kartu tragis ... dan tidak untuk mengakhiri semuanya, mereka membuat limun dari lemon ... tercatat pada yang terbaik mereka bisa sampai memelihara untuk band (dan semangat The Rev) hidup untuk FANS .... Saya senang bahwa saya dapat membantu proses ini ... Saya tidak berusaha menggantikan The Rev... . Aku hanya berusaha membantu yang mereka melakukan .... Saya yakin band ini memiliki kemampuan untuk masih mencapai hal-hal yang BESAR dan saya pribadi senang melihat mereka melakukan (dengan segala hormat untuk Jimmy) ... Bayangkan jika AC / DC berhenti setelah Bon mati dan mereka tidak pernah membuat Back In Black .... atau Metallica berhenti setelah Cliff meninggal dan mereka tidak pernah melakukan apa yang telah mereka lakukan sejak tahun 1986 ....

* Johnny: Pada titik ini berjalan bersama-sama. Itu semua besar dalam cara mereka sendiri. Aku ingat memiliki sebuah ledakan dengan Bullet For My Valentine. Kami memiliki tur di Australia dengan banyak kesenangan musim panas lalu. Para fans benar-benar menerima kedua band dan mereka senang melihat kami berdua. Tidak pernah ada malam yang buruk bagi siapa pun karena tidak ada orang yang baru saja fans dari salah satu band. Kami memiliki beberapa hari libur di tempat itu kami pergi ke pantai, bar, dan segalanya.

Mungkin sudah banyak yang tau tentang hal-hal yang akan kami bahas dibawah ini, Tapi kami akan mencoba menjelaskan tentang kesalah pahaman yang terjadi selama ini, dan hal-hal lain yang perlu dibenahi/diluruskan :
1. Gosip tentang pita suara M. Shadows yang rusak dan dioperasi.
terjadi setelah City Of Evil diluncurkan. Hal ini terjadi karena perubahan total yang terjadi dari Waking The Fallen ke City Of Evil, terutama di suara M. Shadows. Padahal hal ini salah kaprah.Berikut kutipan dari pernyataan Mudrock (Produser Waking The Fallen & City Of Evil) dalam Al Excess :"Saat aku bertemu dengan band ini setelah Sounding The Seventh Trumphet keluar dan sebelum Waking The Fallen, Matt memberiku sebuah CD (Sounding The Seventh Trumphet) Matt bilang padaku rekaman ini all screaming (Sounding The Seventh Trumphet), rekaman yang ingin kami buat yaitu Waking The Fallen kami ingin membuatnya A half screaming and a half singing, Dia bilang 'I don't want to scream anymore', tapi aku ingin membuat rekaman ini a half screaming and a half singing dan rekaman setelah itu akan menjadi all singing. Mereka tahu mereka akan membuat rekaman yang nantinya disebut City Of Evil adalah all singing, dan itu terjadi dua tahun sebelum City O Evil keluar Dan semuanya adalah BUllshit yang menyebutkan Matt tidak bisa screaming lagi, it's just not true,"

Ini jelas suatu awal bagi kami, dan ini adalah hal terbaik yang bisa kami lakukan untuk diri kami. ketika kau masih muda, kau akan mendapatkan kekhawatiran tentang apa yang orang lain pikirkan tentang dirimu, banyak sekali sehingga kau tidak selalu melakukan yang kau inginkan. Juga dibuktikan dalam lagu God Hates Us, Welcome To The Family, Save Me
Mungkin ada yang berpendapat scream M. Shadows tidak seperti dulu, dan menggangap A7X bukan tidak se heavy dulu.Ya, memang benar M. Shadows tidak bisa scream seperti dulu karena memang tekniknya sudah berbeda, dan sekarang M. Shadows mencampurkan Screaming, Growling, dan Singing.boleh saja berpendapat bahwa Nightmare tidak heavy lagi, malah ada yang menganggap cengeng. Tapi menurut AVENGED SEVENFOLD sendiri menganggap bahwa Nightmare adalah BLACK ALBUM mereka.

Banyak yang berpendapat Mike Portnoy skillnya jauh dibandingkan dengan The Rev, dll.Jika MP lebih payah, kenapa The Rev mengidolakan MP? dan MP merupakan Infuence terbesar The Rev.Dalam segi skill memang berbeda, karena MP cenderung Progresive, sedangkan The Rev mencampurkan beberapa unsur (metal, progresive, rock, punk) yang disebut unorthodox.Perlu diketahui Album Nightmare ini 100% ditulis dgn Jimmy. Jimmy ada di setiap lagu, & dlm setiap bagian musik yg ada. Mereka menulisnya selama sekitar 9 bulan. A7X ingin membuatnya lebih heavy & pekat. Akan dibuat album berkonsep yg original, yg sudah selesai 100%. Saat Jimmy tiada semuanya berubah. Lirik mjd tribut utk The Rev, & bgmn perasaan mereka saat itu, berubah mjd darker record dr sebelumnya.Jadi MP dalam Nightmare hanya meniru apa yang sudah ditulis The Rev dan tidak merubah apapun.
3. Fans Avenged SevenfoldDalam All Excess, Self Titled, disebutkan bahwa fans A7X adalah The Fallen, adanya Sevenfoldism, Deathbaters, Eternal Soldier, dll, adalah kreatifitas dari fans itu sendiri dan patut dihargai.
4. Gosip lain yang juga salah kaprah, mungkin sudah banyak yang tau tentang ini juga, tapi kami akan coba mengulasnya.Munculnya isu yang menyebutkan bahwa album A7X yang baru adalah Eternal Soldier, padahal menurutku gambar yang beredar diinternet, bukan gambar cover album, tapi mungkin ada yang ingin membuat cabang fans baru. namun ada yang beranggapan ini adalah album baru, dan menyebarkannya ke internet. Padahal isu ini terjadi bahkan sebelum A7X masuk ke studio rekaman. Kemudian disusul isu single terbaru Unwind The Chainsaw, padhal ini hanya kerjaan orang iseng yang mengubah judulnya dan menyebarkannya ke Youtube, dan anehnya hanya gara-gara effect gitarnya mirip effect gitar Syn, yang sebenarnya adalah Lagu milik Finger Eleven. Kemudian muncul lagu2 lain, seperti Red Is New Black, dll. Dan dengan munculnya isu tersebut, juga ada gosip lain yang menyusul, yaitu A7X akan pindah aliran ke pop, karena katanya mereka lebih cocok dengan musik pop. Mungkin ini benar jika influence A7x adalah Michael Jakcson, hhe...., perlu diketahui lagu2 seperti Seize The Day (slow rock), Dear God (country rock) bukan lagu pop.
5. HATERS
Synyster Gates :"People either hate everything about us -the 10-minute songs, all the guitar solos, the singing, the lyrics, the crazy drumming- or they have absolute, undying love for us. There's no middle ground."Banyak orang yang benci apapun tentang kami, atau mereka mempunyai mencintai kami sepenuhnya. Tidak ada pemisah.
Jika Syn saja tidak peduli kenapa kita harus repot2 menanggapi?
haters muncul saat City Of Evil keluar, karena perubahan aliran, dan tidak konsisten. Juga karena anak metal sekarang lebih suka new wave metal, yaitu metal yang dipenuhi scream, dan menganggap A7X itu jadul karena mengusung heavy old metal, seperti Metallica, Iron Maiden, GNR, dll.

Banyak yang berpendapat Mike Portnoy skillnya jauh dibandingkan dengan The Rev, dll.Jika MP lebih payah, kenapa The Rev mengidolakan MP? dan MP merupakan Infuence terbesar The Rev.Dalam segi skill memang berbeda, karena MP cenderung Progresive, sedangkan The Rev mencampurkan beberapa unsur (metal, progresive, rock, punk) yang disebut unorthodox.Perlu diketahui Album Nightmare ini 100% ditulis dgn Jimmy. Jimmy ada di setiap lagu, & dlm setiap bagian musik yg ada. Mereka menulisnya selama sekitar 9 bulan. A7X ingin membuatnya lebih heavy & pekat. Akan dibuat album berkonsep yg original, yg sudah selesai 100%. Saat Jimmy tiada semuanya berubah. Lirik mjd tribut utk The Rev, & bgmn perasaan mereka saat itu, berubah mjd darker record dr sebelumnya.Jadi MP dalam Nightmare hanya meniru apa yang sudah ditulis The Rev dan tidak merubah apapun.
3. Fans Avenged SevenfoldDalam All Excess, Self Titled, disebutkan bahwa fans A7X adalah The Fallen, adanya Sevenfoldism, Deathbaters, Eternal Soldier, dll, adalah kreatifitas dari fans itu sendiri dan patut dihargai.

Gosip lain yang juga salah kaprah, mungkin sudah banyak yang tau tentang ini juga, tapi kami akan coba mengulasnya.Munculnya isu yang menyebutkan bahwa album A7X yang baru adalah Eternal Soldier, padahal menurutku gambar yang beredar diinternet, bukan gambar cover album, tapi mungkin ada yang ingin membuat cabang fans baru. namun ada yang beranggapan ini adalah album baru, dan menyebarkannya ke internet. Padahal isu ini terjadi bahkan sebelum A7X masuk ke studio rekaman. Kemudian disusul isu single terbaru Unwind The Chainsaw, padhal ini hanya kerjaan orang iseng yang mengubah judulnya dan menyebarkannya ke Youtube, dan anehnya hanya gara-gara effect gitarnya mirip effect gitar Syn, yang sebenarnya adalah Lagu milik Finger Eleven. Kemudian muncul lagu2 lain, seperti Red Is New Black, dll. Dan dengan munculnya isu tersebut, juga ada gosip lain yang menyusul, yaitu A7X akan pindah aliran ke pop, karena katanya mereka lebih cocok dengan musik pop. Mungkin ini benar jika influence A7x adalah Michael Jakcson, hhe...., perlu diketahui lagu2 seperti Seize The Day (slow rock), Dear God (country rock) bukan lagu pop.

Jika Syn saja tidak peduli kenapa kita harus repot2 menanggapi?
haters muncul saat City Of Evil keluar, karena perubahan aliran, dan tidak konsisten. Juga karena anak metal sekarang lebih suka new wave metal, yaitu metal yang dipenuhi scream, dan menganggap A7X itu jadul karena mengusung heavy old metal, seperti Metallica, Iron Maiden, GNR, dll.
